Learning Tips?

Are you learning Japanese?  Have you got any learning tips you can share with the rest of us?  Got a favorite website that helps you?  How about a great app that you’d like to tell us about?

We’re all in this together, so let’s swap ideas.  You know how I’m doing it.  How are you doing it?

  1. It seems like no one is keen to write first so I’ll start ! I’ve been following the same method as you so there’s no point in talking about Anki. I starting using http://www.fluentu.com (free version) about 2-3 months ago and I feel it really helped me getting the hiragana/katakana/kanji to stick in my head by reading and writing complete sentences. Unfortunately they will change their conditions on September 21th so I still have to decide if it’s worth to start to pay or not, considering the following:
Just a week ago I moved in with two Japanese flatmates and having real face-to-face (basic) conversations should give another boost to learning Japanese, even if I still to spend time alone doing my Anki and reviewing what they taught me. I think this is the best thing I could do without going to Japan, but I’ll see the reward probably only in a couple of weeks.

    • Thanks for the reply. If I get a few, I will collect them all and move them to a post and add some ideas of my own to everyone else’s. Having two Japanese flatmates should be a big help! Not having anyone to speak with makes it quite a bit harder, I think, and, while I know a couple of people who know a little Japanese, the key word there is “little”.
